“Our kitchen is amazing and we love it.”

When our master bathroom on the second floor flooded, we decided to remodel since it was over 20 years old and very dated. We called many contractors who never returned our calls, and then got George and Gretchen’s info from someone in our neighborhood. We called on a Saturday and George picked up the phone! He even came over the following day, which was Easter Sunday, to assess the damage. That customer service was over and above what we had expected, and we knew they were the contractors we wanted.

George and Gretchen have an enormous depth of knowledge and experience in the construction business but are down to earth people who are extremely detail oriented. We had never done any type of remodeling before and were nervous. However, we didn’t need to be. They provided everything for us including a design architect, appointments with vendors to pick out materials and ideas in how to handle issues that arose when our old floors and walls were opened up. Gretchen was a life-saver in helping us pick out items that fit within our “look” and providing suggestions on what might look best. George and Gretchen demand quality from all the vendors/subcontractors they use; they absolutely will not settle for less. This is exactly what you want in a great contractor. The end result is a master bathroom that is even more beautiful that we could have expected! We would recommend them for any building or remodeling.

Double R Builders had built me a house in the past so when I moved and needed my kitchen remodeled I called on them again. Double R Builders worked through the process with me from design through tear out and construction. Everything about this kitchen was created with us and our needs in mind. For example, we measured my tallest cookbooks and built our shelves to accommodate that! We walked through the kitchen to figure out where I would use my kitchen appliances to make sure I would have plugs where I needed them. We converted part of the space to be our new huge pantry. Reinforced shelves and extra lighting really made this pantry fantastic. And, finally, we completely changed the layout of the kitchen. Swapping our refrigerator to the other side of the kitchen made the whole space more usable. We couldn’t be happier with the end result. While it can be hard to live in the disruption of a renovation, Double R Builders made the process as smooth as it could be.

I found Double R Builders after talking to at least a dozen other contractors. I was actually at a meeting with one of the others to sign their contract, when I noticed discrepancies and walked out. Thank goodness I found Double R. Builders! My kitchen and floors had a strict budget of $25 thousand. I was resigned to having to give up some of what I wanted to make it fit the budget. But George and Gretchen worked with me, even insisting that I get high-end appliances. The project was completed on time and under budget. After much research regarding builders in the Austin area we met with George and Gretchen Richards of Double R Builders, LLC. Immediately we were struck by their professionalism, knowledge and attention to detail and their know how with regards to green building and energy efficiency.

During the planning phases George and Gretchen provided us with options, advice and guidance. We spent many hours discussing the possible energy features we wanted to incorporate into the home and they listened to our specific energy concerns and came up with a plan to incorporate our ideas in our home. Their knowledge of energy efficient features and green building particularly impressed us. They also had a superb understanding of the legalities, city codes and the industry in general which proved priceless during the construction phase. The subs used by Double R Builders proved to be incredible craftsmen who completed their work in a professional and timely fashion.

George and Gretchen not only took on board our ideas but did a great deal of research to ensure the most efficient and cost effective measures were taken into account and implemented. We installed a very advanced programmable A/C system, used open cell foam to insulate the whole house and installed energy efficient windows throughout. This was all possible with the expertise of George and Gretchen. We also installed extra wiring throughout the home which will allow us to install an efficient lighting control system in the future and we are also planning to heat our water with solar. All the features that we incorporated into the home have given it a superb feel and have allowed us to achieve instant savings on our utility bills. We have a home of tomorrow today!

Ultimately George and Gretchen Richards not only built us an awesome house with amazing flow, structure and exceptional energy efficiency….they also made this incredible house into a home. For that we shall never be able to thank them enough.

I couldn’t love my house more. Double R Builders has incredible attention to detail that pays off in a home that is both beautiful and very livable. Building on an in-fill lot in an established neighborhood, my home had to be situated between a creek and mature pecan trees. This made placement of the house tricky. But Double R Builders went the extra mile to optimize the placement of my house so I could enjoy the creek and the beautiful trees while assuring my engineered foundation would not fail on the shifting creek soil. And they didn’t stop there. Their attention to all the details that make a house a home was very appreciated from the oversized insulated garage, a walk-in attic, an upgraded HVAC system, the complete house insulation even in the interior walls, the unique wood trim, the picture windows, the custom paint, and the designer lighting treatment. I know Double R Builders will always remain my favorite builder.
